Methodology
Data and Methodology
Chart Atlas is built as an editorial music-discovery tool. It does not simply mirror one ranking table. The service combines weekly country chart snapshots, track metadata, country-level appearances, rank movement, and genre evidence to help readers understand which songs, artists, and regional genres are gaining attention.
Chart Snapshots
The app stores dated chart snapshots so readers can compare the current week with previous weeks. Each snapshot includes countries, tracks, chart positions, movement data, and metadata used by the map, country Top 10 board, analysis table, and crawlable report pages.
Ranking Signals
- A track gains more weight when it appears in more countries and ranks closer to #1.
- Country pages show local rank movement, including new entries and week-over-week changes.
- Artist rankings aggregate the chart performance of tracks connected to the same artist identity.
- Rising discovery requires current aggregate Top 100 placement, at least 250 aggregate points, at least one current country Top 10, and a positive week-over-week score change. Qualified candidates are ranked by score growth, country expansion, Top 10 gains, recent momentum, and multi-week consistency.
Genre Discovery
Genre discovery uses charting tracks as the starting point. The system checks track titles, artists, external music metadata, local genre dictionaries, and chart-country context. This is designed to highlight both global categories such as hip-hop, pop, dance, and R&B and local genres such as sertanejo, OPM, schlager, corridos tumbados, gqom, and mahraganat.
Taste Discovery
Taste Discovery selects playable Apple preview tracks from chart-driven genre candidates. Tracks without an Apple preview are excluded from the sampler so the experience stays focused on playable music rather than empty embeds or broken previews.
Limitations
Music metadata is imperfect. Artist aliases, remixes, local spelling, featured artists, unavailable previews, and genre overlap can cause omissions or misclassification. Chart Atlas treats the output as a discovery signal, not as an official industry chart or definitive genre authority.
